4 Common Types of Diabetes?
If you are here it means you or your loved one is suffering from diabetes. Am I right? All of us know about diabetes but let’s learn about its types today. Diabetes is a disease in which our body doesn’t produce insulin or cannot use the produced insulin in a well and right way.
When a person lacks insulin, or his/her pancreas produces insulin in excess, That leads to high blood sugar levels. If Pancreas produces too much insulin, It causes insulin resistance.
Glucose is a form of sugar that is found in our blood. It is one of our main energy sources. A lack of insulin or resistance to insulin causes sugar to get higher levels in your blood. This disease causes many health issues.
Types of Diabetes:
· There are several types of diabetes but the following are most common;
1. Prediabetes
2. Type 1 diabetes
3. Type 2 diabetes
4. Gestational diabetes(GDM)
1. Prediabetes:
Prediabetes is bad news and good news at the same time as the patient is neither type 2 diabetic nor nondiabetic. The blood sugar levels remain high but not at that point or all the time. It is a symptom of becoming type 2 diabetic. HBA1C (BLOOD SUGAR REPORT) of prediabetics is between 5.7 to 6.4%.
Type 1 diabetes:
Type 1 diabetes is considered to be an autoimmune condition. The immune system mistakenly attacks the beta cells and destroys them in your pancreas that produces insulin.
This is permanent damage that causes lacking insulin in your body or not your body doesn’t produce enough insulin. Moreover, it cannot be recovered without injecting insulin from outside. It isn’t common as type 2 diabetes.
According to a research-only 5–10% of people have it.
3. Type 2 diabetes:
Type 2 diabetes is a type of diabetes in which our body produces a huge amount of insulin that causes insulin resistance. It is so common and more than 90% of people are type 2 diabetic.
According to a study, 415 million people live with type 2 diabetes.
In type 2 diabetes, your body can’t use insulin efficiently. Cells resist overtaking insulin and the glucose level in blood increases. The exact causes of type 2 diabetes are still unknown, but some Contributing factors may include:
1. genetics
2. lack of exercise
3. being overweight
4. There may also be other health factors and environmental reasons.
4. Gestational diabetes:
Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that is caused by insulin-blocking hormones produced during pregnancy. It only occurs during pregnancy. But in some cases, It converts into type 2 diabetes after childbirth.
Outlook:
Prediabetes is a situation in which a patient is not diabetic but is at risk of being type2 diabetic. Type 1 diabetes is for life long. You have to inject insulin from outside as your pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin.
Type 2 diabetes has insulin resistance that causes high blood sugar. GDM is only during pregnancy. It will resolve after your baby is born. However, you do have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life.
